Habitat:
Sun Bears are found in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Burma, Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo.
Diet:
Sun Bears eat lizards, little birds, rodents, insects, termites, fruit and honey. They have really sharp claws which come in handy because they cut open logs and tree trunks to find termites or bees nest.
Predators:
Sun Bears are afraid of humans, tigers and other bears that are larger than Sun Bears. Sun bears have loose skin so if a predator tries to attack it they can twist around and run.
Defense:
As all bears do they stand on their hind legs, fluff up their fur, make a loud growl and pound their paws to the ground and charge to whatever is bothering them. Mother bears are very protective of their cubs and they will attack if it becomes necessary.
Behavior:
Sun bears are usually solitary(travel alone) animals. But when it comes to breeding season they hunt for food with a female or male until its time for mating. When the female has her cubs she will stay with them for 2-3 years max. Females are ready to mate from 3 to 8 years of age. Male Sun Bears are like a bully to the females because they are known to kill them for food. Which makes females nervous when it comes to mating seasons. The male follows the female for a while until the female feels safe and lets the male come closer. After they have mated the male leaves and may never see the female or cubs again. Sun Bears live in a warmer climate to other bears so they can mate at any time.
Cubs are eventually born. They can't hear and have no teeth. The mother bear carries them by the head. it doesn't hurt them.
